Drake Bay Wilderness Lodge

Drake Bay Wilderness Lodge offers a comfortable and wildlife-rich base just 30 minutes from Corcovado National Park, one of Costa Rica’s most biodiverse regions. Overlooking the calm waters of Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula, the lodge is surrounded by vibrant rainforest and coastal scenery. White-faced capuchin monkeys frequently visit the grounds, and it’s not uncommon to spot coatis, agoutis, anteaters, Scarlet Macaws, toucans, and even dolphins feeding or playing just offshore. The lodge sits beside a quiet emerald river that flows into the Pacific, providing easy boat access right to the property—a scenic and convenient arrival for many guests.

The grounds are beautifully maintained and fairly level, making them easily walkable. Tropical flowers and forest edge vegetation attract a variety of birds and butterflies, offering great opportunities for casual birdwatching just steps from your room. While not a dedicated birding lodge, the wildlife viewing here is excellent, and birders often find rewarding sightings both on-site and during tours.

Accommodations are rustic but comfortable, each with a private bathroom, hot water shower, porch, and ceiling fan. Amenities include a small swimming pool, bar, shared terrace, Wi-Fi in common areas, and complimentary kayaks for exploring the nearby coast or estuary.

A stay of three nights includes two guided tours, while four or more nights include three guided excursions, with options such as a Corcovado National Park hike, snorkeling at Caño Island, a mangrove boat tour, or a visit to Río Claro. Guests on privately guided birding tours will have their expert guide accompany them on all excursions, though transportation may be shared with others.
